DAVENPORT, Iowa — Doctors, nurses and staff at Genesis Medical Center are celebrating the final phase of a major construction project. Thursday, Oct. 20, construction crews topped off the building at East Rusholme Street, putting the highest beam into place.
More than 2,000 employees signed the ceremonial beam. The $150 million project will include 12 new surgical suites, and an expanded emergency department.
It's a major milestone for the project that's been in the works since 2007.
"We've been through a recession, we've been through healthcare reform, and here we are, and we've produced what we needed to. So we are going to be ready for the future," said Mike Sharp, VP of construction and design.
Sharp says the project is on schedule and on budget. He expects to finish the work in about six months.
