BETTENDORF, Iowa--A company that was previously blocked from building a 72 bed in-patient free standing psychiatric hospital in Bettendorf just announced it will try again to get state approval to go forward with the project.
Back in February Iowa's State Health Facilities Council was split in a tied vote that ultimately blocked the hospital from being built.
The out of state company, Strategic Behavioral Health, will request again at a meeting in July to open the facility near Tanglefoot Lane and Golden Valley Drive in Bettendorf.
The proposal was met with opposition from two of the largest health systems in the Quad Cities, UnityPoint Health Trinity and Genesis Health System.
But the company says it selected Scott County because of the need for mental health services that is not adequately being met in the area. And since the Certificate of Need meeting last February, Strategic Behavioral Health leaders say there have been many concerned Quad City families reaching out to them.
The hearing will be held in Ankeny, Iowa on July 7.
