It's a game the players and their families have been preparing for all season long on and off the ice.
The parents take care of the donated baked goods and raffle items while the Quad City Blues boys hit the ice to warm up for a game that means more than just getting that win.
On Sunday the Blues faced off against the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders in a charity game to raise money for Genesis hospice care benefiting local veterans who served in the Armed Forces.
"We have the arsenal here with lots of people in the Armed Forces as well as some of our coaches," says Blues co-captain Cole Krueger.
Assistant Coach Jay Carr is one of those coaches Krueger is referring to. He served in the United States Army for 23 years.
Coach Carr understands the importance of giving back to veterans, and he hopes to pass along that knowledge to his players.
"For the boys it's really the most important thing. They're not doing it for themselves, they're doing it for the community," says Coach Carr.
Some players in particular have taken the coach's message to heart.
"It's good to give back to the community," says Blues co-captain Joe Carr.
Coach Carr's son Joe plans on joining the military this summer.
"It was a decision he came to on his own and [I'm] unbelievably proud he has made a decision to serve his country," says Coach Carr.
The Blues beat the Rough Riders 4-2 on Sunday.
They hope to raise $10,000 from this charity event. If you would like to donate, contact someone from the Quad City Blues directly.
